We are proud to announce that CD Medical is now an industry partner of The Lindsay Leg Club Foundation.
The Leg Club® model, the brainchild of Ellie Lindsay OBE in 1995, is designed to provide a social environment of holistic care for people living with, or at risk of leg ulcers and leg-associated issues.
Holding Becker’s Health Belief model (1974) at its core, the Leg Club is centred around the understanding that in addressing an individual’s beliefs, including perceived barriers, benefits, severity and susceptibly, their motivation and social behaviour, as well as providing the education, tools, and confidence to take an active role in their own health care, treatment compliance will be achievable, allowing better patient outcomes in relation to leg ulcers.
Members of the Leg Club not only receive treatment of their leg ulcers, but also receive education as to how to maintain leg health, preventing further problems and leg ulcer recurrence.
At CD Medical we believe that when it comes to one’s own health, knowledge is indeed power, which is why the Leg Club model of empowering its members to maintain leg health, through ongoing education and support, is something we are so keen to support.
The Leg Club model has been shown to have a positive impact on ulcer healing and recurrence, but also on its members mood, sleep, quality of life and pain, [1] indicating that its holistic approach is gaining holistic outcomes.
Although the Leg Club is a service for patients of all ages, 51% of its members are 80 years of age or older.[2] For a demographic who, sadly, are at risk of social isolation and loneliness in the UK, the Leg Club also provides an opportunity to interact and engage with others on a regular basis, the benefits of which cannot be overstated.
Not only does the Leg Club provide an invaluable space for its members, it also provides the opportunity for nurses, who might otherwise spend the majority of their day working alone, to work alongside one another, sharing their expertise, thoughts and supporting one another; a space of true collaboration.
We are so proud to be able to support the incredible work of the Leg Club Foundation, and hope that through our partnership we can aid in the sharing of research and innovations to the enhancement of the lives of Leg Club members.
