In 2021, an open, non-comparative evaluation was conducted on the Isle of Wight, to explore the efficacy of MaxioCel, a 100% chitosan dressing with Bioactive Microfibre Gelling (BMG) technology, in the management of hard-to-heal wounds.
The tissue viability team, focused on improving service delivery, healing rates and positive patient outcomes, were keen to assess the impact of MaxioCel on the following wound assessment parameters:
- Wound size
- Appearance of wound bed (percentage tissue type)
- Condition of periwound skin
- Evidence of wound infection
- Levels of wound exudate present
- Patient pain levels
Eleven patient with chronic wounds of various aetiologies and wound durations were enrolled in this multi centre, clinical 4-week evaluation.
We are now delighted to see that the results of this evaluation have been published in the February 2023 issue of the Tissue Viability Supplement, in the British Journal of Nursing.
